sound-ART

CATA.PIRATA is an internationally active interdisciplinary artist working across sound, performance, installation, visual storytelling, and community-based practice. As a composer, producer, director, and performer, she creates immersive audio-visual works that weave together voices, rhythms, memories, and landscapes - centering people and environment as inseparable forces of culture and resistance.

Her sound practice draws from traditions of sonic collage and deep listening, using field recordings, oral histories, ancestral rhythms, and fragmented archives to construct layered compositions that challenge dominant narratives and reclaim sonic space. Rooted in liberation and cross-cultural solidarity, her work explores freedom and resilience - not as abstract ideals, but as embodied experiences held in both human and ecological memory.

CATA.PIRATA has toured and recorded in Brazil, Egypt, Lebanon, Argentina, Colombia, Korea, China, La Réunion Island, South Africa, Aruba, France, Portugal, and the Netherlands, among others. Her work incorporates a rich variety of musical styles - from digital cumbia, creole maloya, Brazilian rasterinha, and electro chaabi to dub, footwork, and psychedelic rock - which she inventively merges into an intimately layered sonic universe of her own.

Her projects often emerge from community - whether working with incarcerated youth, co-creating intercultural music programs with migrants, or crafting participatory performances that blur the boundaries between ritual and rave, protest and lullaby. She treats sound not only as art, but as a vessel for collective healing, cultural continuity, and resistance to oppression.

Looking over her body of work, CATA.PIRATA recognizes a consistent throughline: an engagement with futurism and the imaginative act of envisioning alternative futures. Her practice resists linear time and inherited borders, instead mapping sonic pathways into speculative realms - where liberation is felt, futures are plural, and survival is art. Whether through deep basslines echoing diasporic memory or participatory rituals that center collective dreaming, her work invites audiences to listen not only to what is - but to what could be.

Always grounded in collaboration and care, her practice is a call to listen deeply - to each other, to Mother Nature, and to the stories carried in the spaces between.
